About Dr. Poff
Dr. Poff earned a B.S. in Psychology and B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Washington and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Hawaii at Mano'a. She also completed a dual-specialization in Health Psychology, which focuses on the interactions and effects of behavior on health disorders and issues. After earning her Ph.D., she completed additional training in a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in clinical neuropsychology at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, HI. She worked as a researcher at the University of Hawaii School of Medicine/Office of Neurology and Aging Research, studying the cognitive effects of HIV/AIDS in an aging population. She has collaborated on a number of research studies in this area as well as in health psychology and neuropsychology.
Dr. Poff started in private practice in California in 2003, then had successful practices in Florida and Pennsylvania. After 6 years on the East Coast, she moved back to California and opened her current practice in El Dorado Hills, California.
Dr. Poff has worked in a variety of outpatient and inpatient settings. This included work with dual-diagnosis substance abuse patients in an intensive outpatient treatment program, teens in a residential treatment program, inpatient and oupatient psychological and neuropsychological testing, health psychology/behavioral medicine consultations, mental health liaison in a community mental center and the schools, and as a therapist in outpatient clinics. Patients seen presented with depression, anxiety disorders, PTSD, OCD, social and generalized anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, ADHD, parenting issues, behavioral management problems, work-related and personal stress management issues, and marital problems.
Dr. Poff is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and has a goal- setting, problem-solving approach in therapy.
