Below are general symptoms of depression. Most people with clinical depression will experience a number of these symptoms. It is not necessary for a person to present with all the symptoms to meet criteria for depression or to seek treatment.
Symptoms of Depression
- Depressed mood
- Reduced or lack of interest in things that used to give you pleasure
- Significant weight loss or gain, or change in appetite
- Sleep disturbance
- Feeling agitated (may feel anxious) and functioning "slower"
- Fatigue or loss of energy nearly every day
- Feelings of worthlessness or excessive guilt
- Lack of concentration, inattention
- Thoughts of death or suicide
